Rose Quartz is one of the most common varieties of Quartz found in abundance all over the world. It ranges from a pale pink translucent stone to a hazier, deeper pink often containing trace amounts of titanium iron or manganese. It can also contain fiber inclusions of rutile giving it a cat's eye or star effect when polished in cabochons or spheres.
Long called the Heart Stone, this rosy pink stone may have been used as a love token as early as 600 BC and it makes a perfect stone for promise rings, engagement rings, and other tokens of affection. It attracts new love, romance, and deepens intimacy as well as helping you to develop a closer bond with family or friends, groups, and community. It is attuned to the Earth, the Universe, and the Divine with a gentle energy promoting love of self and others.
Other than love, Rose Quartz inspires the appreciation of beauty and stimulates the imagination making it a great stone for writers and artists. Face masks made of Rose Quartz have been found in Egyptian tombs and were worn to clear the complexion and prevent wrinkles.
The Science of Rose Quartz

The Healing Uses of Rose Quartz
Rose Quartz is an emotional heart healer, an excellent crystal to work with during relationship problems or healing from divorce. Meditating with rose quartz creates a field of love energy around you activating the heart chakra and helping to open your heart. It can help heal emotional wounds around love such as after a break-up and expand your willingness to connect to others in romantic and platonic ways. It cultivates self-love making it great for wounds of the ego such as dealing with your weight, physical disabilities, or other issues.
In Reiki and crystal healing, Rose Quartz is most often used at the heart chakra to promote general well-being and love and allowing your heart to be more open and receptive to love. Note that it is a stone of emotional healing rather than physical healing.
Rose Quartz dissolves and heals emotional wounds helping you recover from a broken heart, ease fear and resentment, and circulating Divine, loving energy. It can help reawaken the heart to its own love bringing a deep sense of fulfillment and contentment letting you truly give and receive love from others.
Wearing Rose Quartz in jewelry is an excellent way to bring it's energy into your life, especially as a pendant worn at heart level. It combines well with green aventurine for physical heart healing and luck in love, and rhodonite for building deeper connections with others.
The Magical Uses of Rose Quartz
As the stone of the Heart, Rose Quartz is a primary component in love spells, medicine bundles, and crystal grids. It is said to be a powerful aphrodisiac, stimulating sexuality and promoting peace and love towards ourselves as well as others.
In spell work, using rose quartz, especially in heart shapes, can be a powerful totem to attract the love and connection you are seeking. Please remember the rule of Free Will and instead of trying to attract a particular person, work towards attracting the love and connection you need in your life in a more general way asking for what is best for your highest good.
Rose Quartz is a great stone for altars dedicated to love, beauty and one of the associated Gods and Goddesses such as Aphrodite (see correspondences for other associated deities).
*Note Gender refers to its polar qualities and can be worn by all genders. Feminine energy is gentle and receptive, Masculine is more forceful and projective.
